Heritage Events

This fall, winter, and spring, Camp Woodie is offering multiple opportunities for adults to join their campers on hunts and other weekend activities. During the fall you can join your camper on a dove, deer, and/or duck hunt. Other spring events include Shooting Instruction Weekends, Women’s Wilderness Weekends, Bass Fishing Tournaments, and Family Camp Weekends.

Shooting Instruction Weekends

Shooting instruction weekend is a 3-day, 2-night session focused on shooting instruction at multiple shooting venues across the entire Wildlife Education Center (Rifle, 5-Stand, Skeet, Layout, and archery). Other activity opportunities include our zip line, waterfowl aviary, and fishing will be available. Camp Woodie will provide each adult/camper group with their own room, meals, ammunition and shotguns. Participants are encouraged to bring their own guns so the campers can learn more about their own guns. Groups will arrive on Friday from 4-6pm for check-in and will depart Sunday around 2pm.

Bass Fishing Tournament

This 2-day adult/camper program will allow your camper to participate in a fishing tournament utilizing the many bodies of water at the Wildlife Education Center! We will have boats on the Bullington Pond and Bond Pond for you to fish from but you will also have the option to fish from our new fishing platforms around camp. Each group will have a scale and measuring tape to photo document their fish. You will arrive Friday afternoon to check in, scout the ponds, and do some fishing before dinner. Saturday morning, you will grab breakfast and head out to the ponds to fish until lunch. After lunch, we will hold the weigh-in and present awards. Bring your own fishing pole and tackle to use during the tournament, If you need to borrow items, please contact us beforehand.

Women’s Wilderness Weekend

You will choose workshops to participate in outdoor education and shooting activities. Along with the workshops, there will be group activities like team challenge, zip line, and night shoot. Danny Hieronymus, Professional wildgame chef, will hold a class on how to cook wild game. SCDNR educational instructors will hold classes on different hunting techniques and “know before you go” classes to prepare you for hunting. Camp Woodie will provide lodging, meals, ammunition, and shotguns. All participants are encouraged to bring their own guns to learn more about them but range guns will be available at every shooting activity.

Family Camp Weekend

This 3-day program is an opportunity for parents to experience a few days of “camp life” with their campers. Spending a few days at camp allows campers and parents to become familiar and comfortable with the Camp Woodie facilities and programs. This helps relieve much of the anxiety for campers (and parents) about spending a week away from home. Parents and campers will take part in shooting both shotguns and rifles, archery, fishing alongside instructors. This camp experience will open doors for growth and bonding between the parents and children and serve as a healthy outdoor environment for parents to pass on their skills and knowledge. Camp Woodie will provide lodging, meals, ammunition, shotguns, and rifles.

Requires one camper ages 7-16 per group (you can bring future campers and past campers)
